This year's new work commissioned through the Manchester Jazz Festival originals scheme is by one of the UK's most distinctive, original voices on the trumpet. Neil Yates has created a new suite - 'Surroundings' - for full jazz orchestra, exploring the concept of antiphony, with all instruments placed around the church for a 'surround sound' effect. The narrative for the musical material sees each piece depicting a specific evocative scene from everyday North West life or a specific place in the region.
