Milind Tulankar
Jaltarang, literally meaning 'waves in water', is a unique instrument rarely heard or seen in today's world, despite its extremely soothing sound. Jaltarang is essentially several china bowls arranged in a semicircle with varying levels of water filled to the desired melodic frequency and struck with two cane sticks. Born and brought up in a musical family, Milind Tulankar started learning music from a very young age. His grandfather Late Pandit Shankar Kanhere was a famous Jaltarang player and greatly influenced Milind in taking up this unusual dying instrument. Milind is pursuing every effort to popularize this rare instrument. The Pakhavaj is a North Indian percussion instrument. In contrast to the better-known tabla, the Pakhavaj produces a mellow, deep sound, complimenting the Jaltarang beautifully.
