What's On
Simian Mobile Disco + Boys Noize + Optimo + Delphic
Simian Mobile Disco: James Ford and James Shaw met while studying at Manchester University, but found more interest in their bedroom studio sessions. In the late 90s Shaw and Ford formed the band Simian with two others, and found some underground success with their brand of leftfield indie music. Boys Noize: Boys Noize aka Alexander Ridha. The plural in the artist title may be a little misleading, as the moniker is actually a solo project but the "noize" descriptor in the name is, however, an accurate tag. Feted by artists such as Tiga, Erol Alkan and Soulwax, the youthful Berlin-based producer creates a maximalist music that is noisy and brash, sometimes recalling Daft Punk at their most boisterous. Optimo: Optimo started in 1997, though Twitch and Jonnie Wilkes had each been DJing separately for ten years. Both had started out playing different music - Twitch - electro, noisy rock and the eighties New York punk funk of Liquid Liquid (from who they borrowed their name) and Wilkes reggae, funk and jazz. Delphic: Delphic are an electronic/indie four piece from Manchester that aim to be the future sound of Manchester. Young Fathers: The Young Fathers whole vibe delves into a foray of console sounds, the aesthetic of the seventies, partying and good vibes, that puts the vitality and ambience of the late seventies and early eighties back on stage with a touch of pop and a very healthy sense of humour. Featuring Andro, Sex With Robots.
