Absolutely spot on with this review!!<br /> <br /> I do like this band, I think their raw energy is a great asset, but the main room in the Academy is way too big for these guys who are still in the infancy of their career. I commented with my brother on the night that commercial success, whilst not everything a band might want, is what Twisted Wheel are lacking in order to fill out this room, for example I watched The Pigeon Detectives here in October 07, roughly 5 months after they released their debut album, and the commercial success they had early on meant the venue was far more packed out and raucous!! Same for The Courteeners last May which had a real Mancheter vibe about the night!! At the end TW's set, I had the feeling that we were waiting for the main act to come on!!<br /> <br /> Another thing that disappointed me on the night was the sound quality, I've been to the Academy many times and i've never known the sound quality to have been so poor. <br /> <br /> As for the early reviewer, you must have been at the front, I was roughly 15 yards back (unusually for me!) and it was rather sedate to say the least.<br /> <br /> Overall, loads of promise, but this was too big for them to pull off<br />

This reviewer clearly does not know what he's talking about. How can you possibly say "the jury is still out on Twisted Wheel" when they're playing a 2000 capacity venue, the same size venue Doves played just a few weeks before (and lets not forget they've released 4 albums).<br /> <br /> The atmosphere was amazing, the tunes were fantastic; even the brand new ones that I've never heard before got a great reaction. It was a performance that showed they are at the top of their game after all the supports they have done. I cant wait for the second album. Well done lads<br /> <br /> Sean<br />

This review is absolutely crap. You know the angle the reviewer is going to take when in first few lines he mentions laddish - its so typical of shit reviewers. This one one of the best gigs i have been to in ages - the crowd were going mental and TW played a set that lasted over 1hr 20.TW are a bloody Punk band, so we dont want to hear them talking, we want fast and furious music and thats what they give.(leave that to the NME kids) The place was hammered and everyone was up for it - Think Rob was at another gig down the road. Really liked "Oh What have you done" and one of the new tracks "Take me Higher" but good to hear some older ones like "Smash it up"<br /> <br /> Detriot Social Club and Answering Machine were good choice of supports- both different but offering variety.<br /> <br /> TW 10/10<br />

I agree with the reviewer, it was all a bit flat. The Academy wasn't a sell out, the crowd were a bit sudued and TW only sporadically gave us something to get excited about (quite a lot of conversations with mates during songs which is never a good sign). The first song (Lucy the Castle), and last before the encore (You Stole the Sun) were the highlights with not a lot in between other than Strife. I think it's maybe a bit too much too soon and they need to hone their stage craft in smaller venues for a while.<br />

TIMING is everything and the jury is still out as to whether Twisted Wheel’s emergence as ascendants to Manchester’s rock and roll throne has been helped or hindered by the flurry of talented young things emerging from the city over recent years.<br /> <br /> Having gained major venue experience as a tour support for Oasis they’ve already got a seat at indie music’s top table, but critics have been keen to swoop on the similarities between them and other laddish songsmiths like the Gallaghers.<br /> <br /> It’s fair to say that lyrically there are improvements to be made but caustic riffs and the biting vocal delivery of Jonny Brown seems to set them apart.<br /> <br /> Momentum<br /> <br /> The opening minutes of their show displayed worrying signs that the grit for which they’re known would be lost to a diluted live sound as the three-piece battled to gain momentum and create much needed volume.<br /> <br /> With only one album behind them, and the first three songs rattled off in quick succession, the breakneck pace suggested that the show could be one of the shortest in history.<br /> <br /> Thankfully by the time She’s A Weapon is trotted out in all it’s scything glory, Jonny finds his tongue and begins addressing his audience, who have turned out in respectable numbers.<br /> <br /> Strife offers a strong glimmer of Brown’s affinity with The Libertines, a lazy comparison offered to the band throughout their short career, but a deserving one based on the evidence at hand.<br /> <br /> An acoustic interlude offers very little for the show’s momentum, leaving You Stole The Sun to come in late to start pulses racing again and create thirst for the encore.<br /> <br /> Their ability to marry their pop sensibilities and punk attitude in the same way as the Buzzcocks is evident in Oh What Have You Done? and We Are Us, two golden moments that apparently came too late for a crowd that seemed to scramble for the exit as soon as the final chord rang out. <br />
