Whilst wasn't quite as underwhelmed as the MEN reviewer (30 year old songs sounding dated? How can this be?) neither was I as ecstatic as the fans here obviously were. I was never a huge fan of Ultravox - I found them a band to be admired rather han loved - I thought them worth catching on a tour of medium sized venues. It was as good as the sum of its parts, no more. The show never threatened to catch fire like the recent David Byrne gig did - Ultravox aren't really engaging enough live for that. In fact, Chris Cross at times stood with one hand in his pocket, playing the keyboard with the other - in terms of showmanship, we're not talking Meatloaf here.<br /> <br /> All that having been said, the songs are just great - unlike the MEN reviewer, I love Return to Eden and was delighted to see it feature so prominently. The title track was a high point of the show for me. The lighting and background visuals were also top notch, making up for the lack of dynamism by the players - well, almost. <br /> <br /> I have no regrets about forking out to see Ultravox - it was an entertaining evening, but one that perhaps didn't transport me to the stratosphere. <br />

I too am a little disappointed in the cheap shots in Glenn Meads’ rather childish ‘waste of a ticket’ review.<br /> <br /> I’m not a massive Ultravox fan but like many people of my age I bought and played to death the Vienna album so when my friend Ant told me about the reunion tour it was inevitable I would be at the Manchester show. I’m not really a big fan of these reunion tours at all but having never caught them live first time around I though it would be shame to miss out again.<br /> <br /> It was clear after the first couple of numbers that the only point of this tour was for the fans to take a trip down memory lane. If it was for the money I’m sure that they would have just filled a couple of stadiums in the UK for a few nights at seventy odd quid a ticket like most of the other acts have. All credit to them for choosing this less profitable workmanlike option I say.<br /> <br /> I, for one, was more than happy that some of the material seemed a little dated. The reason for this, rather obviously Mr Meads, is that it is dated. But that’s exactly what the fans wanted and expected and what the band unashamedly delivered. I’ve been to over 200 shows at the Apollo over the years and the performance, and crowd reaction to it, was on par with anything I’ve witnessed there before. The band got it spot on. To take cheap shots at Midge Ure, a bona fide guitar hero and very well respected musician and song writer amongst his few peers, has done nothing but discredit Mr Meads’ competence as any sort of a serious reviewer.<br />

Never Been To See The Guys Before, But The Show Did Not Dissapoint, Great Set, Great Songs, Great Sound, They Had A Sell Out Show & Had Everyone (although probably NOT Mr Meads) On Their Feet, Thoroughly Enjoying Themselves, Certainly The Guys Were Not As Dire At Putting On A Show As Mr Meads Journalism, What Had Happened To Him That Night Who Knows? My Advice Is Never Believe All That Journalists Print, Go Along & See For Yourself, I Doubt You'd Be Disappointed!<br />

I agree with the above review by Peter Godkin, that Glenn Meads was at a different gig, yes we were all there for a trip down memory lane, a nostalgic look at our past. To have swipe at midge personally was unkind (“Midge has sense of irony as he leans back, resembling a dad, playing Wii Guitar Hero on Boxing Day.) Mr Meads showed his lack of capabilities to write a decent review. I was concerned before the concert that the band would not deliver and lack energy in fact it was the total opposite, Midge just gets better with age. The entire band were brilliant from start to finish we all left (except one) on a high, after having a great night out, we certainly got our money’s worth.<br /> <br /> Yea A Brilliant night out<br />

Last night was simply a stunning show from start to finish, I think your reviewer was at a different gig to the rest of us. Yes they have all aged but they can still cut it live, and overall I thought the set list was good and worked well.<br /> <br /> Stand out tracks, the opening Astadyne, then Lament, Visions in Blue, Passing Strangers, of course Vienna (Proving Midge Ure still has the strength of vocal) and finally Sleepwalk, and yes the ending worked well. It was not all about the hits.....<br /> <br /> Bloody brilliant night out!!!!!!!!!!!<br />
