The Signalman
The Lowry
November 8, 2009

THE horror genre is all about gore these days, but there’s nothing like a good, old fashioned ghost story.

If Halloween didn’t sate your appetite for the supernatural, roll up for three spine chilling Victorian tales from Charles Dickens and MR James.

First up is James’ classic ghost story Oh, Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad, narrated by ‘intrepid psychic investigator’ Montagu Furzan (Simon Corble), who recounts the ordeal of a professor whose golfing trip goes awry.

Then, events take a more chilling turn in first of two tales from Dickens.

Paul Sullivan performs The Madman, about a psychopathic wife killer haunted by something in his cell.

The show’s title piece is the eeriest, conjuring up the perilous early days of train travel.

Sinister, atmospheric and with a spine chilling twist in its tail, you can catch the Signalman at Bury Met on November 25, 2009.
