Trio to introduce their guest
THE party time surroundings of the Printworks' Lucid bar is set to be the unusual surroundings for a new play.
The writing trio Skint But Pretty are to debut their first hour-long work, The One-Eyed Houseguest, at the venue as part of the Manchester 24:7 Theatre Festival.
Spanned across three twenty-minute episodes, the comedy explores what happens to a family plagued by a reality TV crew.
Using intrusive lenses and manipulated confrontations, the camera crew turns up the family's buried desires and resentments, demonstrating that a television audience can know them better than they know themselves.
Writers Peter Brooks, Simon Bestwick and Dave Maass met at a workshop in Didsbury Village in February.
After three months of working together the team passed the play onto directors Tracy Gentles and Claire Allen, both of
whom specialise in multi-media theatre.
The performance will now feature in July's 24:7 Festival, set up to provide an opportunity for locally-based emerging playwrights to stage original work at unconventional venues in Manchester City Centre.
The One-Eyed Houseguest will be performed at Lucid, The Printworks from Saturday, July 24 - Wednesday, July 28. Tickets are priced é5/é4 concession. Call 0870 832 8913 for more information.
