A Song For The Lovers
MONKEYWOOD Theatre Company’s A Song For The Lovers, written by Sarah McDonald Hughes first appeared as part of the 24:7 theatre festival in 2006.
However, this version has been substantially re-developed by Sarah, the other actors and new director Jo Fisher, which has been greatly to its benefit.
Sarah McDonald Hughes also stars as Catie, who shows up late at night, clearly in a state of distress, at the deserted Conservative Club bar where her step-sister Jenna (Francesca Waite) works.
As Jenna is trying to get at the truth of how, why and even whether Catie has finally left her abusive, violent lover, a stranger, Davy (Martin Gibbons), wanders into the bar.
At first he just seems a little odd but harmless enough, before events begin to take a more menacing course.
An affecting and provocative drama, A Song For The Lovers is another valuable contribution to The Lowry’s new Studio season.

A Song For The Lovers is at The Lowry until Saturday, October 11. £ - £10.
