When I lived in the UK I often visited family and friends in Oldham and I always made sure I called in to the Ashton Arms for a pint or two. Not the prettiest of places, in terms of decor, but up there with the best in terms of beer, 'the craic', and always a warm welcome whether a stranger or a regular.<br /> <br /> A great mix of customers, from the retired council gardner to a sitting MP - from a passing shopper to a millionaire businessman. This is a home from home pub, where you can eat mouth watering food, Monday to Friday, until 6pm. There is a wide range of cask ales, which are well kept, with the knowledge of the licencee bringing some very interesting new brewreys in.There is always a good range of beers, lagers, continental bottle beers and very good wines.The staff are friendly and helpful. The customers vairy in age and mix extremely well. This is a pub to relax and chill in. Leave your troubles at the door and come in and enjoy the beer, people and atmosphere at the Ashton Arms.<br />

The Ashton Arms is a little gem of a pub tucked away from the bland chains on Yorkshire Street. Serving an ever-changing selection of real ales and ciders, the pub has seven hand-pumps and an exceptional array of beautifully kept beers. There are continental bottles and reasonably priced (and very decent) wine. The Ashton serves home-cooked food during the week, including the justifiably famed curry specials, and sandwiches at weekends. There is a real fire in winter and the clientele is a marvellous mix of local businessmen, older couples, musos, real ale addicts, students, cruciverbalists and shoppers who come in to peruse the free newspapers or chat to the friendly bar staff. Don't expect designer decor - this is a real pub - exactly how it should be.<br />
