City centre misses star
MANCHESTER'S city centre restaurants have once again missed out on a Michelin star in the 2008 guide to fine dining in Great Britain and Ireland.
Juniper in Altrincham, Greater Manchester's Michelin star stalwart, is the only restaurant in the region to have a Michelin star. Juniper's head chef Paul Kitching has retained his restaurant's Michelin star for over ten years.
Kitching, who has been described by Gordon Ramsay as the 'shining star of the north' is reverred for his creations which have included roast lamb on a tian of Weetabix, grilled scallops with HP Fruity Sauce and saddle of hare with white chocolate cream. But Kitching too has previously expressed disappointment at not achieving two Michelin stars when he has said his restaurant is operating at a two star standard.
Slightly further afield, another north west restaurant to achieve a Michelin star was Arkle at Chester Grosvenor Hotel.
