THE call has gone out for entries for one of the north’s most prestigious foodie awards.

Restaurants, hotels, bars and pubs have just a couple of weeks to get their entries in for this year’s Northern Hospitality Awards, which will be presented in April.

In 2009 there was a clutch of winners from our area including Ramsbottom’s Ramsons being named Best Restaurant, Residence in Nantwich landing Best Bar, The Church Green in Lymm being Best Newcomer and Jason Harding, of Salford’s Lowry Hotel, winning the Best General Manager gong.

The awards ceremony will be again at the Hilton Hotel, on April 12, with head chef David Gale creating a four-course menu for the invited guests. Last year, his awards ceremony meal was spectacular.

Categories are: Best Restaurant, Best Hotel, Best Bar, Best Pub, Best Newcomer, Best Wine Offering, Best General Manager and Best Chef. Entry forms for the awards, organised by Moorfield Media, are available to download from northernhospitalityawards.co.uk or obtained by calling 0161 235 5224. The closing deadline for entries is Friday, February 19.

CONGRATULATIONS are due to the Alderley Edge Hotel’s restaurant which has joined the country’s top 10 per cent to be awarded three AA rosettes.

The Alderley Restaurant is the only new three-rosette eaterie between Birmingham and Edinburgh from the latest round of newly-announced top food accolades.

Head chef Chris Holland and his team at the Macclesfield Road restaurant were praised for ‘innovative touches along with a creative use of flavours resulting in top notch cuisine’ and ‘imaginative menus’.

THE little known Carriage Restaurant in the University of Manchester’s Chancellors Hotel in Fallowfield is hosting a five-course French Gourmet Evening with matching champagnes at £55 a head on Feburary 4 and 12. Ring 0161 907 7414 to book or go to meeting.co.uk for information on the evenings.
