Sumo champion Steve Patemen will mastermind the event

CITYLIFE finds the idea of after-dinner sumo wrestling mindboggling, frankly. And during dinner? Well, we're not sure our parents would approve.

Sam Gore, the owner of Japanese restaurant group New Samsi, is joining forces with the British Sumo Federation to host the city's first ever 'sumo wrestling exhibition match' at her Whitworth Street venue.

On June 18, enjoy a 10-course Japanese menu and a jug of sake while watching a bunch of heavyweight Japanese men wrestle each other in a ring. (Now there's something Citylife doesn't get to write every day.)

Two exhibition matches will be staged at 7.30 and 9.30pm, and the event will be masterminded by World Championships medallist Steve Pateman.

Tickets cost £50, and are available from New Samsi, 36-38 Whitworth Street (0161 279 0022) or online at www.samsi.co.uk.
