CUMBRIA cookery school LucyCooks is to feature on Granada television series Grub's Up, with north west chef Simon Rimmer, on December 4.

Located in Staveley, near Kendal, LucyCooks specialises in Lake District produce and culinary traditions - which is something that Rimmer wished to highlight for his viewers.

Rimmer used rosy veal and mutton from award-winning farmer Andrew Sharp, who is based nearby in Lindal-in-Furness.

“Simon is a great advocate of using good, quality produce," said Lucy Nicholson, founder of LucyCooks.

'Passionate'

"He and I share the philosophy that great food needn’t be expensive. He was a pleasure to work with!”

"I am passionate about using the best local produce you can afford. An economical way to buy meat is to ask your local butcher for half a carcass and use every bit of it. You can spend less and still eat well.”

LucyCooks offers classes to illustrate this approach, such as Meat: A Cut Above The Rest and Meat: Pots Of Pleasure - featuring recipes for game foods such as pigeon, venison and duck.

The LucyCooks episode of Grub's Up is on ITV at 7:30pm on December 4.
