Hotel re-instates afternoon tea
Bubbly for tea, anyone?IT'S a contradiction in terms, but there's no other way to put it - retro is making a comeback. And there's nothing more retro than afternoon tea.
Favoured in the pages of Heat magazine by bosom pals Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, finger sandwiches and china cups have knocking around celeb-land for a while - and CityLife feels sure that Madge and Gwynnie would fit right in at the four-star Stanneylands Hotel.
The Calico Cafe Bar is a new addition to the Stanneylands Hotel, and their all-new afternoon tea menu aims to create the perfect alternative for ladies who lunch.
Croque monsieur
Served in the conservatory of a traditional country house, Calico's Afternoon Tea (£13.50) is available between 3pm-5.30pm, and offers a range of finger sandwiches, scones and homemade cakes.
For the truly indulgent, the Calico Champagne Afternoon Tea (£22.50) includes a glass of Rose Champagne or the Cheshire Cat Cocktail, while the Calico High Tea (£29.50) offers a choice of eggs benedict, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs or a parma ham croque monsieur.
