Cupcakes are the new Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Doris Day and the Scarlett O'HaraLORNA Royle, long term Chorlton resident and cupcake fan, saw a niche in Chorlton's food culture. Counting on the combination of the locals' love for all things vintage and quaint cafes she has opened the 'Sweet Tooth Cupcakery'.
Three months after opening and the shop has a host of regulars and seems to be doing well despite only being open three days a week.
The premise behind the shop's opening times being that by only opening Thursday to Saturday it is advertised as 'a weekend treat'.
All the cupcakes are handmade in shop using the richest ingredients such as French butter, mascarpone and fresh fruits.
The cupcakes are given characters once created. the characters range from famous Hollywood film stars to local characters Lorna knows.
The 'Crazy Wendy' is named after the owner of her favourite Thai restaurant in Didsbury and is aptly flavoured with coconut and lime.
Main inspiration
The cupcake was her signature t-shirt logo while working as a graphic designer and she has always been a fan of all things old-fashioned.
Her main inspiration behind the shop came while travelling America. The ideas of indulgence through cakes and ornaments were everywhere and influenced some of her best selling cakes, the 'Scarlett O'Hara', 'Dita Von Teese' and the 'Doris Day'. All which are decorated to resemble their characters.
With the shop vintage in style and serving world teas and unusual milkshakes to accompany the cupcakes, this shop will see people looking forward to 'something sweet for the weekend'.
