Wetherspoon launches wine festival
IF you've never been much of a wine drinker, now's your chance to try it without spending too much. The JD Wetherspoon chain (which, CityLife must note, has never really been known as much of a wine server) is to host a wine festival - offering a selection of discounted wines at seven of its Manchester branches.
Between June 10 (Wednesday) and June 28, wine will be available for between £2.20 a glass (175ml) and £8.69 for a bottle, at The Moon Under Water (Deansgate), The Paramount (Oxford Street), The Waterhouse (Princess Street), The Manchester And County (Piccadilly), The Ford Maddox Brown (Oxford Road), the Seven Stars (Dantzic Street), The Castle In The Air (Trafford Way) and The Great Central (Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield).
The deal includes Pinot Pinot Grigio 2008 Grave del Friuli, Ponte del Diavolo (Italy), Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Steam Wharf Road (New Zealand), Grenache Blanc Chardonnay 2008 Vignes de l’Eglise (France), Rosato Veronese 2008 Alpha Zeta (Italy), Barbera d’Asti 2003 Ca’ del Matt (Italy) and Hawkes Bay Merlot 2007 Stop Banks (New Zealand).
“The six new wines have been sourced for the pub from one of the world’s leading winemakers, who has crafted the wines himself," says Dave Pagett, manager of The Moon Under Water, speaking of Matt Thomson - named International White Wine Maker Of The Year at the International Wine Challenge 2008; and New Zealand Winemaker Of The Year 2008.
“They have not previously been served at The Moon Under Water and I am confident that customers will enjoy the opportunity to sample them.
“Our range of festival wines will be on a par with those served in restaurants and hotels, however they will be sold at a more affordable price.”
