THE nip of winter is definitely in the air, so the timing of the launch of Manchester’s first festive ‘pop-up’ bar and restaurant couldn’t be better.
The North Pole – Manchester’s winter bar - has opened in a marquee next to Urbis and promises ‘to bring a modern flavour to the party season before vanishing quicker than a New Year hangover’.
Northern Quarter bar manager Adam Binnersley has taken care of the drinks with his unique range of spiced winter cocktails, including mulled wine sweetened with Manchester’s own Vimto.
Laid-back
Music in the 300-capacity bar will be a laid-back mix including one-off DJ performances and club nights and could be anything from Northern Soul to rare covers of Christmas classics from Kingston, Jamaica.
The creation of Ear to the Ground, the Manchester events organisers who are best known in the city for the Dpercussion festival, but who have been involved in a string of major international events in 2008 including the launch of the European Capital of Culture in Liverpool, The North Pole will stay open until New Year’s Day.
On the addition to the city’s party scene director Steve Smith said: “We wanted to create a winter experience that was different and interesting.
“We have been involved in events all over the country and Europe but Manchester is our home and the place where we want to spend Christmas.”

I went here last night, could only stay a short while but I was very impressed and will definitely be going back more than once - even if it's just for the jolly nice hot chocolate cocktail :)
