Brickhouse

Leah Moran wrote: 3 years 4 months

As a major Boonite and South lover, it was with a little trepidation that I gave The Brickhouse another go after about 5 years of ignoring Whitwirth St's little indie haven... Im glad I did, although its been a little quiet on occasion when Ive been on a Saturday, the recent afterparty following the James gig at Manchester Central was packed and full of the kind of music that makes you proud to be a Manc, be it The Roses, Oasis, James, Morrissey and the like... and the beer is cheap as chips... Well worth a go, and I hope now Mike Joyce is on board on Fridays they continue to flourish again.

Madness

I agree with Dan, there was far too much of the new stuff used as filler for the hits, surely a week before Xmas Suggs & co could tell that everyone in attendance was up for a dance to the oldies, did the drunken throngs in fez's not give it away? Saying that, when they did roll out the classics, it was worth waiting for... Wings of A Dove, It Must Be Love, Our House... still up there with the anthems. Shame about the hour long Bollywood inspired interlude!

South Night Club

South Nightclub is the best place to get yourself down to on a Saturday night when Boon is spinning the tunes, not your average indie club full of wide-eyed 'yoofs' with Liam Gallagher haircuts, South has an older crowd and a family vibe, you see the same faces every week and its as comfortable as slipping on your favourite jeans... with a bit more 'Ave it of course... from Doves to James to Chameleons to Kasabian to Killers to The Source to Faithless to The Beach Boys... does exactly what it says on the tin... rescuing Manchester from Saturday night mediocrity since 2001.... Boon Army!
