Carluccio's

Food and service are excellent and the shop is full of top quality stuff but I'm not sure how long it'll last with the prices it charges.

Turn one corner and you'll be faced with a sprawling industrial mess of an abattoir. Turn the next and you'll be greeted with an idyllic country pub with as much character as it's unusual surroundings. Whether you visit during a hazy sunny day where you are surrounded by the fields and little cottages or on a cold winters night huddled around the open fire. This place is a real gem. Well worth straying off the more trodden path for.

Great location and lovely decor to this very welcoming pub. Whether you are visiting on a sunny day or a cold winters night it's always worth the strenuous trek up Joel Lane. The only criticism would be that the food can sometimes be a bit lack luster. I've eaten there many times over the years and it can be quite inconsistent. Get it on a good day though and it's a real gem.

How Manga Took Over the World

Was really looking forward to this exhibition but it was pretty thin on the ground to be honest. Some nice stuff and the addition of the movies was a good idea but not as good as some of the previous exhibitions.

Negresco

This is a smaller clone of Circo from Liverpool but nowhere near as plush. The idea of a macabre bar was interesting, but it's execution was a bit lacking and left the place feeling quite cold. You have to wonder if anyone can make a success of this pub as it's changed hands so many times over the last few years.

I didn't see this gig but did catch her in September supporting Massive Attack in Castlefield. I truly great artist who does crossover music so effortlessly it doesn't feel forced one bit. You can carry a simple live show when you have music as good as this. I was every bit tempted to pay the extortionate prices from touts for last nights gig but after seeing West at the MTV awards the other week I would rather visit the dentist. Can't wait for her to return to town next year. One of the most exciting acts of 2008 for sure.

Sinclairs Oyster Rooms

Great pub with a top location and even better prices. Always packed on Sunny days and has a really cosy feel in the winter. You are guaranteed a good pint and friendly bar staff. This really completes the whole atmosphere of Exchange Square and is a welcome change to the trendier places just round the corner. Thank god the bomb didn't take this gem from us.

The Thinman Project

I've seen the future and the future is thin. If you are looking for a fresh new sound and something to break the Indie monotony that seems to have saturated every night out, then this is for you. Italio influences and a formidable stage presence. Well worth a couple of quid on a Thursday night.

Tucked away in the back streets of Manchester, this little taste of manchester hospitality is a real find. Good quality beer and decent surroundings but very, very packed on a weekend night.
