Massive Attraction

Review Event Massive Attack

10/09/08 15:17

The only thing missing was the weather. That could be the one comment to detract from a fantastic show. Great Music, flawless vocals, exhilarating visuals and a fantastic venue all for gratis. This is the third time I've seen Massive attack, but the first since Mushroom left. I was worried t... more

Great little find

Review Venue Cask – 29 Liverpool Road Manchester

10/09/08 15:24

A slice of Northern Quarter on the other side of town. Great bar but no where near big enough. Good beer garden though and the juke box is for the hardcore mancunian. more

Best overhaul in town

Review Venue Deansgate – 321 Deansgate Manchester

12/09/08 16:26

Since it's relaunch it's been a great addition to the quieter end of Deansgate. Really nicely laid out and with it's classic interior it'll never get dated. The drinks are a little on the pricey side, but that's more to do with it's vicinity to the Hilton. Staff are friendly and efficient a... more

Sams top house

Review Venue Sams Chop House – Chapel Walks Manchester

12/09/08 16:15

A stalwart of Manchester pub culture. An original Gastro pub before that term meant brewers fayre. A combination of beautiful surroundings, good food, great beer and fantastic staff make it a must see on any decent pub crawl. If you're lucky enough to get a seat then you'll probably stay the wh... more

Spit and Sawdust

Review Venue Mother Mac's – 33 Back Piccadilly Manchester

15/09/08 12:00

If you like your pubs rough and ready then this is the place for you. I recently visited this place with an old friend who hadn't been to Manchester in years. He instantly fell in love with the place as it's a great example of what all pubs used to be like before Manchester had it's extensive make over. I remembe... more

More of a whimper than a Mang

Review Event How Manga Took Over the World

15/09/08 13:33

Was really looking forward to this exhibition but it was pretty thin on the ground to be honest. Some nice stuff and the addition of the movies was a good idea but not as good as some of the previous exhibitions. more

The Thin Machine keeps rolling

Review Event The Thinman Project

15/09/08 14:00

I've seen the future and the future is thin. If you are looking for a fresh new sound and something to break the Indie monotony that seems to have saturated every night out, then this is for you. Italio influences and a formidable stage presence. Well worth a couple of quid on a Thursday night. more

Hunt this one out

Review Venue Godley Hall – Godley Hill Godley Hyde Cheshire

15/09/08 14:07

Turn one corner and you'll be faced with a sprawling industrial mess of an abattoir. Turn the next and you'll be greeted with an idyllic country pub with as much character as it's unusual surroundings. Whether you visit during a hazy sunny day where you are surrounded by the fields and little cot... more

Budget luxury

Review Venue Sinclairs Oyster Rooms – 2 Cathedral Gates Manchester

15/09/08 14:12

Great pub with a top location and even better prices. Always packed on Sunny days and has a really cosy feel in the winter. You are guaranteed a good pint and friendly bar staff. This really completes the whole atmosphere of Exchange Square and is a welcome change to the trendier places just round the corne... more

More hits than misses

Review Venue Hare & Hounds – Werneth Low Road Hyde Cheshire

18/09/08 09:04

Great location and lovely decor to this very welcoming pub. Whether you are visiting on a sunny day or a cold winters night it's always worth the strenuous trek up Joel Lane. The only criticism would be that the food can sometimes be a bit lack luster. I've eaten there many times ... more

Acts to watch in 2008

Santogold's album is so diverse that it pretty much puts everyone else in the shade. True classic album in the making. She delivers the goods live too which surely must mean this girl's in for some awards in the near future.

Briton's Protection out of Good Beer Guide 2009

Top boozer and I'm sure this won't affect it's trade that much. It's already a stalwart on the tried and tested boozer trail in town.

Glasvegas plan Christmas album

Fat Eskimo wrote: 1 year 6 months

Gutted I'm gonna miss both of these dates. That is a top album and great to hear someone singing in a proper glasgow accent. Set them apart from most of the regular indie crowd and the wall of sound stuff gives it real presence.

Review: EastzEast

I ate here on saturday and was very, very impressed by it. Granted it's not usual to find a top notch restaurant under a budget hotel and on that side of town but it knocked spots off contemporaries like "Shimla Pinks". I also have a nut allergy and they were all well informed as too which dishes to avoid. Would definitely take friends here again and recommend it for anyone who is fed up of Rusholme.

Thomson looking forward to contest

Fat Eskimo wrote: 1 year 6 months

I truly hope this will mean Thomson will get back to his Stand Up roots. He's a fantastic talent and it'll be good to see him on stage again. He always gave Coogan a run for his money.
