Six gigs in one night, that’s what it felt like. DJ Dan Le Sac and rapper Scroobius Pip brought to a packed audience a message. Before I get to the nitty gritty, I’m glad to have seen this rapping / philosophising / rocking /drum ‘n’ bass duo.

Dan Le Sac was the DJ but one with a modern twist – Apple laptop? Check. Electronic drums? Check. But that was merely a means to an end. Intelligent remixes, raving beats, crowd-pleasing drum snare. The mix.

But what I wasn’t expecting was both a DJ’s and a charismatic rapper’s love of the stage. Both captured the crowd’s attention with their chattiness, which was packed with humour.

One minute there could be a song tackling the darkest of issues, the next were laughs from a duo that looked at ease as the flagbearers of a politically-motivated generation as a pair of comedy circuit stalwarts.

Times are tough: who and what band are going to step up and nail today’s issues, as many musicians have done before? Look no further, these guys deserve everyone’s attention.
