The Armstrong And Miller Show

The glossy programme which accompanies the show forewarns there are plenty of acrylic wigs to enjoy in the show.

As it turns out there are so many that you can feel the crackle of static in the air. And why not push the boat out?

The sketch duo, (Ale)Xander Armstrong and Ben Miller, haven’t toured in nine years so they deserve as much dressing up as they can muster.

Tonight they’re on playful form, only two sketches in and the ‘ladies’ of the Dandy Lions Vegetarian Organic Cafe have started a (choux) bun fight and at various points in the show members of the audience are invited to join in.

The characters are ones familiar to viewers of the TV series and Katherine Jakeways joins them to reprise her essential supporting roles.

The Second World War RAF pilots who speak like urban teens (like) reoccur throughout the show – it’s a simple, yet effective gag.

Filmed sections allow for costume changes including a cheeky video game skit.

Elsewhere there are some newer characters – the old school vampires harrumphing at the new Twilight style bloodsuckers who are stealing their cool.

The Flanders and Swann style musical duo sing a typically bawdy number for all to sing along to and the finale – a homoerotic ditty on how Xander and Ben met – is great.

Overall a good time was had by all – in particular, it seems, Armstrong and Miller themselves.
