Baa Bar

Baa Bar Baa Bar

Baa Bar
Fallowfield
September 2010

Baa Bar is the big and boisterous character in Fallowfield’s student-centric strip of drinking holes.

Dominating a corner spot with a curved balcony overlooking the junction of Wilmslow Road and Wilbraham Road, its carved, aboriginal-esque window screens create a sense of intrigue by partially masking the colourful interior and candleit tables.

Inside the atmosphere engulfs you immediately; upbeat music, dim lighting, playful patterns and quirky items accompany the buzz of chattering students who fill the long tables and new pool table enclave.

The second floor is an open 100-capacity club space led by late night DJs, where the ambience is energised by an LED video screen covering an entire wall.

The third floor is more low-key version of the ground floor available for private hire.

The venue is one of seven bar/clubs from the leading north west based chain established by Urban Splash property developers Tom Bloxham and Jonathan Falkingham.

Baa Bar has been around for nearly 20 years, but its resistance against full-throttle brand roll-out (and no doubt the owners’ heritage in high design), has meant it has side-stepped corporate overkill and
instead retains an independent feel; particularly with design features like rows of retro TVs above the bar.

Its student-friendly USP is its bottom end prices; midweek two pint cocktails are £5, any shooter from its extensive range is £1, a double and mixer is £4, and you can get a Fosters, VS or Strongbow for £1.50.

258 Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield, Manchester, M14 6JR (0161 224 9559).
