Bad Company

Bad Company
MEN Arena
April 3, 2010

More than 30 years after they first burst on to the music scene, Bad Company still know how to rock.

And while the majority of the 10,000 strong audience were past their head-banging days due to lack of hair, the crowd was ready and willing to welcome back a group who have not toured the UK in more than a decade.

Paul Rodgers and company opened the night with Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love to the roar of the audience. After their triumphant opener, they launched into crowd-pleaser Rock Steady.

The Seventies hard rock supergroup stopped at the MEN Arena as part of their 2010 reunion tour.

As the band have not toured together much in recent times, it was nice to see the five members – Rodgers on vocals and piano, guitarists Mick Ralphs and Howard Leese, drummer Simon Kirke and bassist Lynn Sorensen – performing together. There was a real sense of ‘it’s good to be back’ among them. Throughout the set, Rodgers, who recently toured with Queen, gave an outstanding performance.

He was all over the stage as if he was on a workout routine and spinning the microphone stand. And his soulful vocals were simply outstanding on Simple Man and Electricland.

He also got a few wolf whistles from the females in the crowd when he took off his long sleeve shirt and revealed his biceps.

One of the show’s highlights was Feel Like Making Love.

The Joe Perry Project provided support on the night and definitely got the crowd in the mood for some proper rock and roll.

But it was disappointing when Bad Company came on for their encores at 9.55pm, as they had only been playing for an hour.

Even though they played three encores, including Bad Company, it felt like the reunion ended a bit early and all too quickly.

That being said, Bad Company can still rock and will hopefully be rocking for many years to come.
