The Charley Boorman Show
The Charley Boorman Live Tour
Palace Theatre
March 20, 2010
With a host of impressive acting credits now behind him, including early roles in Deliverance, Excalibur and Hope And Glory, Charley Boorman now seems set to throw himself into as many treacherous and potentially life-threatening adventures imaginable - all so that we don’t have to.
Returning with some pretty incredible tales and photos, The Charley Boorman Live Tour is just about the most interesting and entertaining collection of holiday snaps you’re ever likely to view.
Having successfully survived a motorcycle trip across the globe with fellow actor and best friend Ewan McGregor back in 2004, riding through the treacherous terrain of countries such as Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, the resulting TV programme remains one of the more interesting travel series to have aired during the last few years, as well as a bestselling book.
It also inspired Boorman to undertake similar trips, not always including McGregor, with this evening's event at the plush Palace Theatre a fine venue to showcase the amusing and always entertaining stories culled from his journeys.
Alongside fellow biker (and Race To Dakar co-star) Simon Pavey, himself not short of a few interesting anecdotes, he details the struggles with the locals - mainly a gun and guitar toting 'shopkeeper' seen in the original series - and enlightens us about some rather unsavory local delicacies sampled along the way. They even compare battle scars.
The show is amusing, entertaining and inspiring. If the reality of crossing the globe or offroading on a motorbike has never really appealed, some of Boorman’s stories and pictures might just briefly change your mind.
