Three of the Best from 24:7

MOVING: As We Forgive Them MOVING: As We Forgive Them

DURING this July’s marvellous 24:7 theatre festival, a week of new theatre staged in unusual spaces, audiences were asked for the first time to rate each performance they saw.

Backed up by the opinions of professional reviewers (ahem!) and experts, that gave rise to this showcase.

For anyone who didn’t get a chance to experience 24:7, it’s a fantastic introduction to the sheer talent on display, year after year, at 24:7. The evening kicks off (at 7pm, take note!) with Alistair McDowell’s compelling, sometimes terrifying 5.30.

Set on a train, the play charts the unlikely friendship between aggressive, manic Rob (Pete Ash) and the quiet, reserved Tim (Adam Caslin).

Skilfully written, it’s also wonderfully played, as is the evening’s next production Lub You, in which writer Eve Steele inhabits the mind and body of baby, as two year old Charlie’s world is turned upside down by the birth of his baby brother.

Rounding off this tremendous, highly recommended evening of powerful new writing is Richard Vergette’s memorable and moving As We Forgive Them.

The writer himself plays an American Congressman who controversially saves his daughter’s murderer, powerfully played by Joe Sims, from the death penalty in order to educate the man on his wrongdoings.

The Best from the Fest is on at the Bolton Octagon until Friday, September 18. Plus on Saturday, September 19 from 10am-6pm, there’s a discussion event entitled Investigating Three Of The Best at Bolton Octagon, at which you can meet the writer, cast and director of each production.
