Exit Salford
THIS true-life drama about violence and racism in Salford, written by Ed Jones, has some harsh things to say about contemporary culture, but is based on the playwright's own personal experiences.
Novelist and screen-writer Jones has written a no-holds barred account of Luke, a writer with good intentions, who when faced with the credit crunch, buys a home in Salford which he refurbishes and tries to integrate into the community.
A strong cast is led by Alan French as Luke but it's the youngsters who bring reality into his life.
Ant Singleton as Kenny and Rebecca Elliot as Adele are particularly good although Emily Spowage as the women in Luke's life and Tim Fallows as Ryan are also convincing.
This is an ambitious work with important things to say in under an hour and could well be extended into a full-length play.
Exit Salford is on until Saturday, July 25 (no show July 24).
