The Frontline
VICTORIA Ofovbe grew up in Manchester, began her writing career as a young writer-in-residence at Contact and has since studied at the Arden School of Theatre.
In this work she attempts to demonstrate the dangerous consequences of gun culture in a dramatic two-hander packed with verbal and physical violence.
There are excellent performances from Clair Robinson as Aisha, a young girl mourning the loss of her brother Paul. His friend Ramone, powerfully played by Dean Fagan, takes revenge into his own hands with dreadful consequences.
This is a passionate piece but there's little sense of inner city living and the two characters of grand-mother and fiend Charlene may have provided more light and shade if actually seen on stage.
There's real potential in this work which could be extended into a full-length play but at present is a work in progress.
Frontline runs until Sunday, July 26 (no shows July 21/25).
