The Coffee Hour

TWO strangers literally bump into each other in a crowded coffee shop.

She’s distinctly unfriendly, trying to bury herself in her book, but he tries harder and harder to break down her defences and eventually succeeds.

Her back story is that she hasn’t been able to recover from the death of her dearly loved sister in a recent hit and run but with the help of her coffee shop friend it seems she may at last begin to unwind.

Back at her place, the morning after the night before, the plot is suddenly stood on end as he is revealed to be, well, I’ll let you guess.

It’s all quite decently done. Mike Peacock, who is also the author, and Sarah Wylie, do their very best to convince as the not so casually thrown together couple but the underlying likelihood of the central concept doesn’t stand too close a scrutiny.

Entertaining and thought provoking nevertheless, particularly as it delves into the horrific repercussions of one casual thoughtless act.

The Coffee Hour is at New Century 1 until Saturday, July 25.
