Eve Bennett
EVE Bennett’s exhibition in the Manchester Craft Centre is a celebration of the people who have shaped her life.
Her child-like imagination takes you through a series of memories, including a rather black humoured tale of her uncle’s aviary of birds being wiped out after her forgetful mother leaves the gas on - a number of clay birds lie, feet in the air next to a very ornate, empty bird cage.
All of Eve’s drawings and installations have a very home made, organic aesthetic and sit very aptly in the craft centre next to the fair trade coffees and cakes.
This isn’t hard hitting, knock you down sort of art but it is a very expressive, thoughtful foray into Eve’s imaginative world and is nicely accompanied with her sketches and notes which only serve to further your interest in her craft.
As a recent graduate of MMU’s art school I feel she is only just coming into her own and we might well see her sitting comfortably with the likes of Cath Kidston in the not too distant future.
This exhibition and the craft centre itself are well worth a visit on a leisurely afternoon.
