Wednesday

WEDNESDAY started with two of the cast being blindfolded, gagged and bound to two beds before the audience arrived.

The normality and cheery joviality of their captor Curtis, played by Si Bates, was alarming yet amusing and you couldn’t help but like him.

He continued to watch his Corrie and cook up a mean chicken curry and it’s one of the few plays where his character’s off stage presence was as important as his time on it.

The effects were good and the performance of all three actors was superb, in particular Ruth Middleton who played Rose, who made you worry for her welfare once the end arrived.

The script had a dark humour, but it was remarkably well written with the audience being kept in suspense and the story being revealed in a way which kept you on the edge of your seat with lots of unexpected twists and turns.

There was a constantly changing power balance between the characters and even with far fewer lines, Daniel played by James Boyland, portrayed the manipulative psychopath that he was.

Needless to say one of the characters came to a very nasty end, but not necessarily the one you’d expect.
