Paradise Wood

PARADISE Wood was the first of a double bill of new writing looking at the darker side of human existence.

It began just prior to the meeting of two strangers, a naked man wearing nothing but shoes and a young woman out for a walk in the middle of the night at a well known suicide black spot.

The play centred around the interaction between the two characters, the laid back, easy going Liz, played by Tara Lofthouse and the obsessive, neurotic  Saul, played by Iain Peacock.

There was a strong performance from both actors and as the reasons for each of them being there were slowly revealed, along with the dark sense of humour of the writer, it became clear that suicide had affected both of their lives.

The effects were put to good use, with the play punctuated by the film and sound of trains thundering past and the periodically ringing mobile phone which sent Saul into a panic.

The piece threw up many unforeseen moments along the way leading to their escape, whether that be from the situation they found themselves in that night or the current state of their own lives.
