Solitaire

GREG Baren presented quite the surreal and intelligent play ‘Solitaire,’ at the Salford Art Theatre.

Ellie, a confused woman finds herself trapped in a surreal dream world, regretfully revisiting key moments in her past, which had shaped her present.

Two straight talking, controlled agents led Ellie on the journey, momentarily being visited by Charlie, dressed all in red, who recited famous quotes, facts and verses.

By the end of the play, Ellie had been through quite an emotional ordeal and had realised how much of a game, life truly was.

A written programme with information about the play was sadly not available. However, without reasons behind each directorial decision, it did prompt debate when exiting the auditorium.

The audience were able to speculate what Charlie actually represented, and ask why he was such a flexible character, acting as a complete contrast to the restrained and dominating agents.

A sharp and fully engaging production, which was full of messages and meanings, tied up with the metamorphous of the main character.

‘Solitaire’ was a very inspiring and thought provoking production which was well acted and allowed the audience to push their expectations.
