Emotional Rainbows
PERFORMANCE poetry is about more than just words with rhythm and rhyme. It requires passion and feeling to give it presence and to captivate an audience.
Emotional Rainbows may not have had this, but it did, through its honesty and simplicity convey a touching message of optimistic hope and belief.
It was surprising and warming to see such a diverse and unlikely group of individuals working together to produce a show exploring their reflection on life and society.
It would be interesting to find out what brought all of these people together in the first place into this melting pot of creativity and ideas.
Breaking down boundaries
Guided by ‘The Minstrel’ we were led through four sections touching upon disability, romance, society and humour.
The general sense seemed to be about breaking down boundaries and finding unity to bridge engrained divisions.
There was a positivity to their poems as well, a suggestion that problems could be overcome if society faces up to the root causes of its failings.
This was not the most stunning or spectacular poetry event that I have been to, in fact it was far from it, but it was still inspiring in its own way.
This was a very casual, open and welcoming event which charted a genuine sense of hope that is often lacking in the modern world.
