Your Mama's Cookin

ADVERTISED in the Not Part Of Festival Programme as an evening of “Hot tunes from the 20’s to 50’s”, Your Mama’s Cookin Bar Sessions are a more relaxed version of the monthly club night hosted at the Tiger Lounge, with an emphasis on the music instead of the Lindyhop.

Odd Bar looked deliciously twee on arrival, bedecked in floral bunting whilst a tray of cupcakes and Victoria sponges nestled on the bar.

Music was provided by Eronel, female singer of Manchester-based band The Soundcarriers. Tonight was a real treat for fans of the band, as Eronel was performing solo.

However, there was a sense of something missing whileshe played. The disjointed organs which trilled from the keyboard drowned out her beautiful singing voice.

Free cake

The performance would have been more enjoyable if she had kept it simple and stuck to an acoustic set.

Eronel is definitely more successful when performing alongside The Soundcarriers, which are worth checking out when they play The Deaf Institute later on this month.

To make up for the disappointment in the music, I took full advantage of the free cake on offer.

Leaving Odd Bar with a sickly taste in my mouth, I couldn’t help feeling that this evening didn’t quite live up to what was said on the label.
