Art in Action!
THE name, and publicity material make this event sound dynamic,
exciting, and messy. I expected people throwing paint around to loud
jazz.
The pace was actually sedate & pastoral, but never boring. The
Fancy Toys, played relaxed acoustic numbers on a wide range of
instruments.
Art materials came from Artfully Aware, an international, humanitarian arts charity, who teach art as a means of therapeutic healing, and to inspire individual creative expression.
They gave paints and canvas to many adults and children, who sat cheerfully painting away as the band played on, bringing an ambience of Left Bank intellectualism to Manchester.
Some artists painted what they saw so the ampitheatre and musicians were common themes.
Inspiring stuff
One lady set The Fancy Toys in the centre of the arena, rather than their actual location on the rim, and she added images of
the Cathedral, Manchester Wheel, etc, which were not visible from her location.
That she put the event at the heart of her perception of Manchester summed up how special the event was to her, immortalising the
experience. Inspiring stuff.
