40
CHEEKY Chops Productions excelled all expectations with this short black comedy, which captured a real sense of humanity in its characters and appeared to touch the hearts of the whole audience, having them simultaneously laughing and crying at this darkly funny, yet pathetically romantic story.
Lucy is turning 40 and is desperate to bring some excitement back in her life to rekindle the spirit of faded youth.
Lost in translation, her oaf of a husband, Ade, misinterprets her needs and invites over a twenty-something male swinger he found on the internet for a threesome.
Needless to say, what started as Ade’s fantasy and Lucy’s nightmare quickly reverses, sending their marriage into meltdown.
Mismatched couple
This was a festival debut for Jamie Evans, who wrote and directed the play, as well as performing in it. Noel Ross and Ali Rothwell were aptly cast as Ade and Lucy and thoroughly convincing in their roles as the mismatched couple.
They had the audience hanging on their every word, and by the end of the performance the dry eyes were in a minority, a credit to all involved in this basic but strong performance.
