40 + The Wait

THE Wait is a one act drama written by the three actors Ali Barbakordi, Jane Weaver, and Zarah Delaney.

The murder of The Watcher’s cult leader has instigated a power struggle.

Marianne (Weaver) as the leader’s daughter is determined to take the helm of the organisation, but is challenged by the leader’s bullish favourite Christian (Barbakordi).

Drawn together in a blackmail racket, they thrash out their power play.

Grace-Anne (Delaney), the heavily pregnant mother of the leader’s illegitimate child, is seemingly innocently drawn into their web.

Intense journey

The Wait is an intense journey, let down somewhat by the combination of heavy exposition and an unclear storyline.

Marianne seems bafflingly unconcerned by the role that Christian played in her father’s death, and the reasoning behind the extortion is never fully explained.

The play was staged upstairs in the Ape and Apple pub and the actors coped admirably with the up-close nature of their audience.

The combination of proximity to the actors whilst enjoying a good pint made this an intimate enjoyable venue.

Delaney provided a convincing turn as the doe-eyed and terrified Grace-Anne.

And as one audience member commented the sound effects were really rather good.
