Glasvegas

Glasvegas\' James Allan Glasvegas' James Allan

GLASVEGAS suffer from the endless comparison to Jesus & Mary Chain made time and time again based on Caroline McKay’s simplistic drumming and Rab Allan’s moody guitars.

Tonight they prove they deserve far more praise than being seen as merely a sound-a-like tribute band by showcasing very different songs which set them apart melodically from Jesus & The Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine.

The band are currently supporting the mighty Kings Of Leon and performing on huge stages, which suits them perfectly because their epic sound was designed to fill huge arenas.

Glasvegas have their own style of song writing which is clear when listening to the structure of the songs; individually each song is monumental with juxtaposition and contrast from a single strong voice filling the room to an epic encompassing sound echoing around the venue, leaving the crowd in wonder after each song.

All the greats from the Glasvegas’s self-titled debut album made it into the set, as well as songs from the bands Christmas record.

Each was perfect in its own way – for showcasing James Allan’s gentle voice which can be soft and calming when quiet and unbelievable when he threw it out at an impeccable volume; which he did for Polmont on My Mind, Go Square Go and the bands biggest hit to date, Daddy’s Gone - which promoted a sing-a-long amongst the audience.

Glasvegas have had an incredible 12 months and will certainly continue to grow, filling a niche in the musical world which they have claimed as their own and will not give up in a hurry.

The fact that so many people turned up early to see them proves further their rapidly growing success.
