Sundayland: Seymour Mace + Peter Slater + Lee Fenwick
SUNDAYLAND isn’t a standard evening of stand up sets, but a live variety show including short sketches with various characters, games and news. For dogs.
Best known for playing twins Craig and Steve in BBC 3’s sitcom Ideal as well as his prominence on the Manchester comedy circuit, Seymour Mace took on a friendly and personable persona as host.
This seemed to be the real side of him rather than the psychologically disturbed character portrayed in his stand-up, while he was joined by fellow Ideal actor Peter Slater, Eddie Hoo and Jeff Downs.
Peter Slater was excellent as a The Man With The One Liner; especially for those who’ve come across negative small-town humour and the non-hilarity of it, Eddie Hoo posed as Gok Wan and, for a star prize, two audience members were chosen to compete in who could swear the loudest at him.
Plus, Jeff Downs’ impression of King Kong while the other two chase him outside onto the streets of Fallowfield had the audience in hysterics.
An X Factor-style sketch called Toys Who Sing, rounds of Party Popper Roulette, Guess Who – as well as the swearing competition, all got the audience involved without them feeling singled out – in fact one audience member volunteered for Party Popper Roulette before Mace even had to ask, illustrating how Sundayland has struck a chord with its loyal audience.
Intentional or not, Sundayland has a similar sense of nonsensical humour and format to Vic Reeve’s Big Night Out. News For Dogs – which keeps your finger on the pulse of all things dog-related was a perfect example of this.
Extremely funny and strangely relaxing, Sundayland is a great way to recover from the weekend’s activities and of course, swear loudly without offending anyone.
Sundayland takes place at Remedy, Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield, every first Sunday of the month. 8ish start.
