The New Shapes - You've Got Me Running Round (Pop)
THE debut release from Londoners The New Shapes is hardly front-page news - a fashionable mod-punk tune at a time when Hard-Fi and The Dead 60s are up to similar tricks. But You've Got Me Running Round is much better than the Clash cast-off you might expect, instead brimming with enough confidence to let the song breathe.
So the spiky guitar riffs are sparse, the bass is gently pulsing and the vocals under stricter control than a Salford City Council ASBO.
It's very retro, but in a slightly different way to everything else, which is as good as we can hope for nowadays.
