Madonna - Confessions On A Dance Floor (Warner)
IF they are confessions, then they are pretty lame ones. For instance, Madonna doesn't like any other city but the Big Apple (I Love New York) and she is not sure whether her quest for fame was worth it (How High). That latter confession is disingenuous, and the former is so gauchely worded that you wonder whether Lourdes has been doing Madonna's homework for her.
No, this album is less about confessions than it is about the pure joy of the dance floor. According to the press release, Madonna reinvents dance music (aaarrgh, that 'R' word!) and gives us "future disco".
Synths
That means fat, bassy synths and speaker-pummelling rhythms.
Confessions is a seamless piece of work, but it aims to engage the feet rather than the brain.
Not so much the vaunted reinvention of dance music, just further evidence that Madge remains canny enough to surround herself with the right people to keep up with the game.
Released November 14, 2005.
