The Coral - Nightfreak and The Sons Of Becker (Deltasonic)

THE good news is that The Coral's questing muse is so busy that the Hoylake combo can knock off an 11-track album in seven days flat, merely as an appetiser for their next album proper.

The bad news is that the meticulous eclectism of those previous two "proper" albums is largely absent from this off-the-cuff affair. Loose arrangements abound and bum notes remain resolutely unfixed in the final mix.

The twangy rockabilly noir of I Forgot My Name and Migraine provide perhaps the finest moments, but the overall feel here is that this is a bunch of demo recordings - an impression reinforced by the fact that there will be no singles taken from this album, and it will be deleted after its limited run.
