Ida Maria - Stella (Waterfall/RCA Label)
HONESTLY, what is this song about? Well I'll tell you, it's about God. God decides to give the world away for one night with a 43-year-old prostitute name Stella.
You might be thinking that this premise is ridiculous, but let me continue. It's actually about the power of love and the lengths people go to just to be held, just to feel needed and wanted.
God, and presumably people in general only want to be loved.
Well that's cleared that up, that's perfectly reasonable.
Though it's a message cloaked in a metaphor that is hard to swallow, I guess it's true enough, and it is genuinely entertaining.
Her strained, pained cry of "Stella" that mirrors the suppressed release of God's loneliness stands out as the song's highlight, but it fails to conceal the laughable overtones.
Released on March 10
