New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream (Island)
FROM the ice-cold, robotic delivery of Tahita Bulmer's suggestive innuendos to the naked, funk arrangement of New Young Pony Club's finest three minutes, Ice Cream is a criminally good record unafraid to tip a dangerous portion of double entendre on its bowl of mint choc chip."I can give you what you want," delivers Bulmer, deadpan, over a bare disco-punk back beat, "I can make your heartbeat short/I can make you ice cream/We could make a sweet team/Melting in your vice dreams, sport."
Phew! And if that's not got you loosening your collar, try her follow-ups: "I can be the sauce you crave{hellip} treat that treats you so mean... drink me like a liquor, come on and dip your dipper."
Erm, are we all on message? It's all as delicious as a mound of fudge cake dripping in melted chocolate, and without contest the coolest single of the year.
It's only right that it should be re-released following its stint on a TV ad and given a second bite of the cherry. A chocolate dipped one that is, naturally.
Released on July 2.
