Praise be to Rock
The Rev Colin McIlwaine is throwing open the doors of the Moravian Church, Yew Tree Lane, Dukinfield, for a fundraising karaoke contest for anyone to enter.
The building is usually filled with the strains of church hymns but for one night only it is set to rock to the sound of pop songs and classic tracks. Singers taking part in the event tonight will be judged by the audience.
The gig has been organised to raise funds for the church and open up the building to the local community.
Motorcycle enthusiast Colin, who also pens folk songs, said: "The karaoke night is open to the whole community not just those who attend the church.
"Anyone can come along and show us what talent they have got, and who knows we may even unearth a future star."
Organiser Bob Storey said he will be able to provide most tracks requested by singers.
He said: "Contestants have the opportunity to show their star quality and this has captured the imagination of people.
"It is a fun way for people to come together in a community for a good cause."
The church will host series of Saturday night concerts throughout the year and the Chadderton Brass Band will perform on May 3.
Local artists are also being sought to perform on the other nights. To find out more, contact Bob Storey on 07906 559810.
