Extra special news for budding stars

A GROUND-BREAKING New York ballet troupe are looking for young performers to appear as extras in their forthcoming run of performances at the Lowry.

The Dance Theatre of Harlem, the world's only black classical ballet company, need 12 extras to take part in their version of the classic Russian fairytale Firebird for two shows in their four-night run.

The show runs from Wednesday, April 28 until Saturday, May 1 but the extra will only be required for the performances on the final two days and they don't need to have had any ballet experience.

The Lowry's Performing Arts Education Manager, Jane Dasilva, said: " We are looking for extras over 16, black or white, male or female, 5'2" - 5'6" and no larger than a size 12.

"It isn't necessary to have had any dance training but those interested should be used to appearing on stage and be able to walk well.

"There is no audition - interested applicants should simply contact Katie Kennedy on 0161 876 2086 - and must be available for the afternoon and evening of Friday, April 30, and for the evening of Saturday, May 1."

The Dance Theatre of Harlem's production of Firebird runs from Wednesday, April 28 until Saturday, May 1 at the Lowry. Tickets are £12-£36 - to book, call 0870 060 1768 or visit the website below.
