The city milers socking it to poverty

FOR those who can't wait a year until the next Great Manchester Run, there is always July 15, when the city hosts the biggest Sport Relief Mile outside London.

Celebrities, politicians and the public are urged to go the extra mile to raise money to help vulnerable people.

At the start line in Exchange Square, the likes of Richard Fleeshman, Roxanne Pallet, Vicky Binns and Kevin Adams will join 10,000 people from all over the region to complete the Manchester Mile, and plenty more celebrities are expected to sign up.

There is no age limit to enter the mile, neither are there any regulations about ability; you can run, walk, jog, wheel or be wheeled around the (relatively!) flat city centre route.

Occasion

Dress up for the occasion and remember this is a Comic Relief event - so a sense of humour is a must. Each contestant will be given one red sock to wear around the route and at the finish line they'll be presented with a second to show the world that they've socked it to poverty.

Councillor Mark Hackett, says: "Manchester is proud to stage the biggest Sport Relief Mile outside London. We expect 10,000 people to take part."

It costs é5 for adults and é2 for children under 16. Family tickets (two adults, two children) are é12. Visit www.sportrelief.com or call 0845 605 8000.
