Hazard warnings from history
A new Peopleés History Museum exhibition which focuses on ordinary peopleés health at work over the last two centuries aims to answer those questions and provoke debate on current hot issues such as smoking in pubs.
Hazard! Health In The Workplace Over 200 Years opens to the public on Saturday, January 22, drawing on a mix of oral histories, objects, photographs, posters and family friendly interactive exhibits.
The exhibition will cover every aspect of safety at work - from occupational diseases over the ages, to child labour in this country and the developing world and what can done to improve working conditions in everything from heavy industry to professional sport.
There will also be occasional special events, including Strike A Light, a living history workshop about the story of the match girlsé strike in 1888.
Hazard! Health In The Workplace Over 200 Years takes place at the Peopleés History Museum on Bridge Street in Manchester from Saturday, January 22 until Sunday, July 10. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is é1 (free to unwaged visitors and free to all on Fridays).
