Forest finds the right formula

DELAMERE Forest will echo to the sound of Formula One engines this Bank Holiday weekend when motor racing legend Sir Stirling Moss takes to the track at Oulton Park in a vintage Maserati 250F.

In a celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cheshire Gold Cup meeting, Sir Stirling will drive a few demonstration laps in a car similar to the one that he made his name with in 1954.

In the Fifties, the Gold Cup was a non-championship Formula One race, but these days it is a three-day celebration of historic racing cars which gathers together drivers and machines from the glory days of the sport.

Cars from the Fifties to the Seventies will race on the parkland circuit, while off-track more than 1,000 classic cars will be on show. There will also be a death-defying wing-walking display plus a fly-past by a glorious Merlin-engined Spitfire.

A free open paddock allows spectators to get up close and personal with the cars and chat to their drivers. Meanwhile, under-15s get in free and thereés plenty for them to do with fairground rides and bouncy castles.

Oulton Park is situated in rolling Cheshire country next to Little Budworth and is best accessed from the A54 or the A49.

The Cheshire Gold Cup takes place on Saturday, August 28 to Monday, August 30. Tickets cost é20 for the whole weekend or é15 per day and can be bought in advance by contacting the Oulton Park hotline on 0870 950 9000. Children aged 15 and under go free.
